AN ARMY OF PASSIONATE CLERGY

The Maryland Black Robe Regiment is a Chapter of America’s Black Robe Regiment. It is a network of pastors and religious leaders who strive to safeguard liberty. We believe that today’s leaders must step into their God-given duty of leading not just from the pulpit, but in communities and government as well. This echoes the actions of America’s first pastors, whose strong beliefs led and won the revolution.

Tyranny must be abolished. As a local leader, people are counting on you and we believe it is your duty to hold government leaders accountable.

The Maryland Black Robe Regiment follows in step with America’s Black Robe Regiment with a focus on the State of Maryland. We hold true to the Gideon’s 300 Pledge.

Gideon’s 300 Pledge

– Whereas Liberty is Sacred, the Gift of God, bestowed by Jesus Christ upon His Bride the Church, and

– Whereas Liberty being Sacred is the Church’s Sacred Trust, and

– Whereas the Church as Light of the World and Salt of the Earth (Matt. 5:13-16) is Sole Curator (trustee, steward) of the Civil Society and Guardian of the Blessings of Liberty, and

– Whereas the “children of disobedience” walking according to the “prince of the power of the air” are incapable of understanding, much less securing the Blessings of Liberty, and

– Whereas temporal governance in the hands of the children of disobedience inevitably devolves into absolute despotism, and

– Whereas my Sacred Duty to secure the Blessings of Liberty to my own generation extends to Posterity, and

– Whereas the temporal welfare of my flock is as much my concern as their eternal welfare,

I will, with the help of God

1. NOT DIVORCE MY ROLE AS THEIR PASTOR FROM MATTERS THAT HAVE A DIRECT BEARING ON THEIR TEMPORAL OR ETERNAL WELFARE, NOR MY ROLE AS A SHEPHERD FROM THE DELIBERATIONS AND ACTIONS OF CIVIL GOVERNMENT; AND,

2. PREACH THE WHOLE COUNSEL OF GOD; AND,

3. PREACH A MINIMUM OF ONE ELECTION SERMON PRIOR TO EVERY ELECTION; AND,

4. INSTILL IN MY FLOCK A BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW BY TEACHING AND PREACHING ALL OF THE TRUTHS IN THE BIBLE; AND,

5. TEACH MY FLOCK THAT VOTING IN EVERY ELECTION FOR THE MOST GODLY CANDIDATE(S) IS A SACRED DUTY INCUMBENT UPON EVERY VOTER PROFESSING FAITH JESUS CHRIST; AND,

6. PROVIDE AMPLE OPPORTUNITIES FOR EVERY MEMBER OF VOTING AGE WITHIN MY FLOCK TO REGISTER TO VOTE; AND,
SEEK TO PARTNER WITH OTHER PASTORS IN MY LOCAL COMMUNITY TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN A CULTURE OF LIBERTY WITHIN THE LOCAL CHURCH AND WITHIN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY,

SO HELP ME GOD.

The Modern-Day Black Robe Regiment

Though the name “Black Robe Regiment” has a militant ring, The Maryland Black Robe Regiment do not condone violent action or the taking up arms in rebellion or protest as an organization. We act to preach, teach, and stand firm to protect our God-given “Inalienable Rights” as Christian Citizens and Clergy. We stand to defend the integrity of the Constitution and the Godly founding of our nation. Through our parent organization, America’s Black Robe Regiment, we are part of a network of Pastors, Patriots, and Citizens of multiple denominations and doctrinal positions spanning twelve states (and growing).

The Historical Background Black Robe Regiment

Black Robe Regiment was a derisive British reference to the black-robed American clergy, whom the British regarded “chief agitators of the Rebellion” (i.e., “War for Independence”) of the colonies against British rule. The label was a fitting appellation, for by the time the war began on April 19, 1775, preaching had made the political worldview embodied in the Declaration of Independence ubiquitous.

The contribution of the American clergy to the monumental act of Independence cannot be overstated, for the patriot pastors had “effected a revolution in the hearts and minds of the people” (John Adams) before the war commenced.

About The Maryland Black Robe Regiment Logo

There is a meaning behind every aspect of our Chapter Logo.

  • The shield represents our need to protect the God-given freedoms outlined in the Constitution of The United States of America.
  • The Maryland flag background symbolizes our commitment as Patriot Pastors in The State of Maryland to do our part to defend against tyranny within our State.
  • Open Bible represents our need and commitment to preach the whole counsel of God on spiritual, political, and community concerns without hesitation or intimidation.
  • The Two Flint Lock Pistols – Pastor James Caldwell was a revolution-era minister. It is said that James Caldwell carried two flintlock pistols to protect himself from British threats and sympathizers because he preached of revolution against British tyranny. He would take these pistols out and lay them on either side of his pulpit while he preached. He would become a chaplain in the colonial army. We include these flintlocks in our logo not as a testament to taking up arms against those that oppose us but as an acknowledgment that defending the values and factual history of our nation makes us unpopular in the view of our time,
  • The Parchment Banner represents The United States Constitution, which in our logo is written with the Latin phrase, “Fides erga Christum, Defensio Libertatis,” Which means “Faithfulness In Christ, In Defense of Liberty” which we believe the Constitution stands for, and we hold to as our duty and mission as an association of Patriot Pastors.
  • The Cross represents our faithful commitment to our God and that all things come to us under his authority, and no authority stands higher.
